QUINCY, Mass. - Colleen Walker and Barb Mucha combined to shoot a 7-under par 65 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead after the first round of BJs Charity Championship at Granite Links Golf Club.
Walker made a 30-foot birdie putt on the first hole, and the duo closed with eight birdies and one bogey.
"We went into the round thinking we had to shoot a really good number, because anything can happen on Sunday," said Walker, who won nine tournaments on the LPGA Tour and is seeking her second title on The Legends Tour. "We kind of click together and know each other’s game really well."
The third annual tournament _ which features 30 two-player teams from the LPGA’s Legends Tour _ concludes Sunday with an 18-hole scramble format.
Defending champions Nancy Scranton and Christa Johnson birdied five of the last nine holes and are among three teams one stroke behind. The teams of Sandra Haynie/Val Skinner and Allison Finney/Debbie Massey also shot 66.
